Hello to all good friends,

And who the hell are you Voorbug? Either identify yourself, or get the
hell out of here. You may revel in your anonymity, but we don't. All we
feel is a revulsion for your sorry ass, and a general impulse to
discount everything you write about, or think about. So kiss our
collective asses, and get on down the road, dude. If you want to be
taken seriously, get serious, and identify yourself.

Regards,

Michael from Houston

HEY Tango Sheriff!!
If you want to use bad words do it in a private mail and not in a public list.
Everybody is sick and tired of your stupid posts and now your bad actitude.
Instead of telling somebody to move ,why don`t you do it.
No regards,
Daniel Lapadula

Dear List Members,

I think the discussion lately got a bit too 'emotional'. I do not see a
point in venting frustration here. Since _nothing_ is going to be decided on
this forum (it is a discussion forum, decisions are made by the individuals
and not by the collective) there is no need to use strong language, to get
personal or to be rude (it is also a very ineffective way of influencing
other people).

Tango-L has a bad reputation among many tango dancers - I propose we change
that. It only depends on us: if you are willing to handle differences in a
restrained form or in personal mail. I suggest that if you feel you are
insulted, just write a few lines to the offending person in private or at
least wait a few hours before answering. It will probably help you chill
down the tone of your letters.

...and don't forget to dance a lot!

Cheers,
Aron

Subject: Re: legitimate discussion

I propose to put a few concepts in perspective:

Group Members: the "members" of this, and any other public discussion
forums on the Internet, are in fact not members of anything. They are
individuals who received writing permissions to a shared computer
system memory. This write permission does not confer any personal
empowerment, or special privileges that allow them to make demands, or
insult other writers. There is an even larger number of individuals,
who, by accessing the Internet, get inherent "read" permission to the
same forum. Do we refer to them as a membership of any form?

Writers to a forum should be aware that their messages will pass
public critical scrutiny, and if one does not wish to be ridiculed and
made a fool in the public eye, should carefully weight work on what
they are going to post, and strive to maintain a certain decorum. The
net seems to be an open-for-all-and-anything, but apply
self-restraint for self-interest including the survival of the forum.

Names: Names on the Internet are IDs, and one should always assume
that a name is an alias, unless of course the owner has a business
need to be known by her/his "legal" name . Otherwise, with the
security breaches, spam, worksite policies, political convictions of
your community, etc. it would be foolish. Get used to it and don't be
naive to ask for "real names" publicly. Don't get upset if you
communicate with a machine-name - a human sounding one may be as
false.

Peer review: People love to publish their opinions and advice freely
and passionately on the Internet. Contrary to serious historical,
scientific publications, there's no peer review and no professional
checks on what is being written, and frequently, purveyors of
half-cooked ideas or concepts, writing with talent and conviction,
carry the day. The scourge of our times: Form succeeds over Content.

One (of many) reason for this success is that people trained to read
and study, but not to critical thinking, tend to accept the written
word as authoritative. It shouldn't be so - everything posted on a
forum shall pass a personal critical filter, in other words must be
taken with big grains of salt.

With apologies for the pompousness and self-rigthteousness,

v0orbugw1l
