learn one style and stick to it and do it well.
followers should do the opposite and learn as many
different styles as they can. i like to take classes
in all different styles but so far i always am simply
looking for a way to incorporate what they teach into
the way i already dance. when i follow i try to adapt
to whatever style the leader dances.

Call the different styles of tango anything you want, but learn them all.
I dance differently to different orchestras, or time periods. With each style
of dance comes another. With time, every dance advances and grows. Why aren't
we dancing the canyengue, because the dance grew to what it is today?

In Ballroom there are 10 dances, both in American style and International
style. Each dance shares many steps with the others, there just done to
different timings. But you may learn a step better in one dance than another
and sooner or later you can do the step well in all the dances. I learned to
separate my shoulders from my hips doing the Waltz. I found that hard doing
the fox-trot, but I now have good separation in all dances.

Nuevo tango is a marriage of two or more styles of tango. But now you have a
new way to dance. I've heard many teachers say to learn Milonguero first and
go to Salon is the most difficult. It's easier to learn Salon first and
advance to Milonguero. My personal feeling is that a new person to tango
should learn the basics with the Milonguero style, getting to learn how to
lead with the close embrace, but there is another topic of discussion.

P.S. Some of you might remember me because I proposed to Joanne P over the L
list. I thought I would let everyone know, we getting married on April 5th
and honeymooning in BsAs. We're looking forward to the day but especially the
honeymoon. I love you Joanne
