Subject: names for milongas
Hi all,
I'm searching for an Argentine word to describe a
casual milonga, like a milonga for my university
students who still don't have leather-soled shoes and
dance in jeans or khakis. It's also only 2 hours long
in the early evening (Sundays 7-9pm). The no teaching
etiquitte is also a little relaxed. We also dim the
lighting. No refreshments.
Perhaps a term I could also use to describe a 2-hour
social after a workshop. Around here, "milonga" means
a something dressy and with refreshments and lasts for
5-hours.
I've heard of "milonguita", but I understand that to
be a diminutive of "milonguerita".
Thanks,

Thanks everyone for some very interesting suggestions.
I did receive a lot of comments about why not call it
a practica. We do have a separate Thursday practica
(after a class) in which they can ask me for help and
play with abandon.
Our Sunday dance was intended to focus more on
socializing, not studying. They're good about not
asking me for help, but a few do some light
practicing. The latter doesn't interrupt the other
dancers and still maintains a social atmosphere.
Budgets what they are, sneakers and rubber-soled shoes
are on the dance floor.
This is a university club (ages in early 20's), so
we're also trying to introduce them to a more adult
atmosphere without scaring them. Thus, they can be
more comfortable when they go to the big milongas
(ages mostly in the 40's & 50's). That can be an
uncomfortable age gap for young people. (Most of the
students have no idea that I'm old enough to be their
mother.)
Think I should crack the whip a little bit more at our
Sunday dance about dress code & etiquette?
