Subject: The Neo Tango Sextet
Good morning
NEO TANGO is the name of a sextet
with two bandoneons; At the end
of year 1999, they produced
a CD titled "Instrumental"
There is no new compositions; they
interpret with new arrangments
a selection of tangos composed
by Firpo, Pugliese, Laurenz, Bardi,
Piazzolla, etc.
Why do they called themselves Neo Tango?
The text on the booklet does not say.
What stands out on the credits for this Cd
is the importance that is conveyed to the
person who made the arrangments:
Carlos Corrales who plays first bandoneon
Andres Linetzky who is Gen. Artistic Director
and others: Omar Valente, Nestor Marconi, etc.
The effort is clearly to have develop a
new sonority, more sophisticated with
dynamic that takes advantage of our
sound system.
If you do not consider this aspect the tangos
you will find are very much has the ones
you have heard.
The intended audience is the tango community;
something that I think is not a priority for
most of the entries on the NEOTANGO list of
Mrs. Fabiano.
Is the NeoTango Sextet danceable? Is it Tangeable?
Often with new tango groups the beat is not
steady enough to make it through the milonga.
The list of Mrs. Fabiano is intended for
the narrow gauge of tango dancing;
I think her essay should be sub-titled:
New music for Tango dancing.
