Subject: news from Buenos Aires
The January/February issue No. 151 of B.A. TANGO - Buenos Aires Tango
contains lots of interesting news and information. It is usually
distributed around the 10th of the month, and I obtained my copy yesterday
in a milonga, and was reading it until 3:00 in the morning.
The front cover is a portion of a painting of the milonga at Confiteria La
Ideal by Daniel Kaplan. The original work can be viewed at Galerias
Zurbaran.

Page 3 - Tocame, Abrazame (Touch Me, Embrace Me) by Tito Palumbo
Tito reminds us that people need physical contact, to touch and be touched,
to caress and be caressed, to embrace and to be embraced. Tango facilitates
this necessity.
Page 5 - Editor's letter to readers
This is where Tito keeps readers informed about things the government should
be, but isn't doing, with regards to the promotion of tango. He also points
out that where once B.A. Tango was invited to exhibit during the Festival
Tango Buenos Aires, he is no longer contacted to participate.

Among the list is Carmencita Calderon on February 10.

Other tango magazines publish translations of Tito's articles with
permission, such as Reportango in NYC and La Salida in France.
Page 10 - Interview with Omar Viola
Tito Palumbo interviewed Omar, who is president of the new Asociacion de
Organizadores de Milongas, regarding the purpose and projects of the
organization. Some of their goals include better promotion of the milongas
in the media; establish an official Day of the Milonguero; erect a monument
to the milonguero; recognize the cultural and spiritual value of the milonga
and have a fraternity among the milongas; and publish a book with details
about all the milongas including history, photos and anedotes.

A letter from the director of B.A. Tango to the Secretary regarding the
annual celebration of the Day of the Tango in Palais de Glace which was
publicized in the magazine in 2002, but not in 2003. Readers are invited to
communicate their opinions to the Secretary on this subject.

It's not the same going to the milongas in the summer as in the winter.
With the heat, the milongas seem longer and the tangos of Pugliese more
intense. If the floor is well ventilated and there is air-conditioning,
it's great. Interesting article.
Page 16 - Things men say to women in the milongas
Tito publishes the contributions of women, who in turn win two entradas to a
milonga. My favorite piropo this month is "Bailar con vos es como saborear
una barrita de chocolate." [To dance with you is like savoring a chocolate
bar.]

March 1 is the 9th anniversary of the publication of B.A. Tango. The
magazine has everything you need to know about tango when you are visiting
Buenos Aires. You can find copies of the magazine and the Guia Trimestral
No. 26 (Dec/Jan/Feb) at the tourism offices and in select hotels if you
can't find them in the milongas.
Thanks to the efforts of Tito Palumbo, we have an excellent source of
information about tango in Buenos Aires.
