Subject: Not all milongas of Buenos Aires are closed
Concerning recent Janis Kenyon posting, I have just talked with Confiteria Ideal (local number 5265 8069/8078), and they will open the evening milonga as usual, from 3.30 pm to 10 pm.
Viejo Correo : "muy posible / quite possible" was the answer (local number 4 958 0634) to the question "will be opened tonight the milonga ?"
Plaza Bohemia will not open at Maipu 444 , they are afraid the place could be order to be closed , since all the licenses for "dancing places category C " as the milongas are usually classified , have been cancelled, and it is required to present a new subscription form to issue a new authorization from the town hall ( with some aditional requests concerning insurance policies for fire that were not requested previously )
Why can I say .... My apologies for all this trouble to tango visitors. There is a local saying "Buenos Aires no termina en la General Paz ( Buenos Aires does not end at the ring avenue General Paz that divides the city from the suburban area )"
My personal feeling about this sensitive matter, is there will be needed extra patience for tango visitors, and to check beforehand wether each milonga will be opened or not , since this is a decision of the organizers .
Not all local Buenos Aires milongas are in the same situation , concerning safety measures and papers in order .
Not all the organizers are the owners of the place where the milonga is held , in fact is the contrary , the "owners" are social clubs , cafeterias, restaurants and so on .
So for some more days or weeks , at least within the Buenos Aires city boundaries, this will be a matter of a "case by case " decision.
Safety measures are not a strong point of local milongas , but people that go to dance to this places are not so crazy as to bring their kids to throw fireworks to a flammable ceiling , as it was the case of the tragedy of Republica de Cromagnon disco.
Unfortunately 183 deaths were caused due to this craziness.
Warm regards

I arrived in BsAs for the first time this morning. I imagined that it
would be a big project to get to know the different venues, figure out
what I liked, etc.--little did I know that it would be complicated by
the recent tragedy and the extension of the mourning period.
I would greatly appreciate if folks would continue to post information
about which milongas are/are not open and/or to send the information
directly to me.
Thanks very much!
