Dance sneakers are a disaster. You cannot work the floor with them.
You might be able to dance, but in my opinion they are a disaster. I
need to feel the floor to work it. My shoes are the tool to do so.
Improper shoes do not let you develop technically. I know, all you
dance sneaker people will disagree with me. I wear my 8cm or higher
heels easily for 12 hours with no pain. The shoes fit me. I buy them
to dance in, not to be admired, not for ego. My shoes are pretty so
don't get any ideas I am dancing in orthopedic granny tango shoes. The
muscles in my feet are also developed. This comes with proper technique
along with wearing the right shoes. (Someone once referred to me as
feet of steel)

Sore feet come from wearing shoes that are too high, do not fit
properly, improper balance. When these things are all correct, you
would be amazed at how much better you feel and dance.

Don't be too down on sneaker wearers. My wife wears sneakers if she has some kind of injury she is working through, not out of choice. I know a couple of other followers that do the same. I mean, classical ballet dancers wear them for training so how bad can they be? On the other hand, now I am doing a bit of following (because my wife and I want to learn each other's roles) I can feel myself naturally going up on my toes and how nice it would be to be in heels... I am prepared to do a lot for tango, but putting on heels and fishnets is probably where I draw the line ;-).

I've danced with women wearing dance sneakers or other low heel shoes. in almost all cases it felt very different from dancing with the women on high heel shoes. Personally, I don't like the feeling when they dance in sneakers because when they land on their heels they seem to sink and if they stay on their toes if feels like they are out of balance.

Dancing with sneakers might be a good thing to do for comfort of because of injuries, etc. But I don't like dancing with women wearing sneakers as well as when they wear high heels. Also, when I see women dancing in sneakers, it seems that they are dancing the leaders part and it looks like they prefer to dance as the man with other women. I generally don't ask them to dance because it looks like they don't want to dance the woman's role (maybe they do want to dance as women but it does not look that way).

Manuel

Hey, I would have said never, but if Chicho decides to dance in heels next year we will all be doing it within a couple of weeks :-)

"Do you think Argentines making 1200 - 1500 pesos a month rush down to Comme
il Faut to buy 350 peso shoes? "

I have to disagree!!! some people down here make more, some make less but
the true fact is that Argentine women give a lot of care to beauty & fashion
so they might just save an entire year just to buy a pair of shoes if it
worth it & wherether it is 350 pesos or less !!!
As regards a coment on shoe sellers I have to say nobody can convince to buy
something you do not want or need right?? unless you are gullible enough to
be believe everything they tell you even if it is not for you!!
I do think women look sexier in heels even if it just 6,5 centimiters!!
especially when dancing being comfortable or not is another thing but "pain
is beauty" right?? though some women do feel comfortable dancing in heels it
just a matter of practise.
As regards heels or women wearing them I think we "women" are free to wear
whatever heel we want to wear regardless of what you "men" might think of
us!! if not is like we are back in prehistoric times when only men rule!!
right? not because we wear a 8,5 or 10 centimiter heel means are look
"ordinary" or "turn peole down"!! come on where do you live?? this is the
2000!!!

True: this is the 21st century ... which also allows men to tell female that perhaps the old male cliches of 'sexy high heels' are/maybe not applicable any more, or at least for some of us. So in the 21st century female might also take the freedom to know they look sexy (and imho very often 'sexier') in lower but appropriate heels! ;-)

Christian

Just for the reference of anyone planning a trip and wondering about the price of shoes - I did a bit of shoe shopping in BsAs (with my wife) and although I didn't go to Comme il Faut, I did go to a lot of other shops. I found the average price of good dance shoes to be about 200-250 pesos around the same price for men and women. These were really beautiful shoes. There were also some nice shoes on special at some of the smaller shops at the 120 - 150 mark which is the more typical price of street shoes over there from what I saw. My wife went to Comme il Faut and she told me that although it was mainly tourists in there she also saw a couple of Argentinians trying on shoes. On the way to the milonga at Glorieta (my favourite :-)), walking through Belgrano, you see lots of wealthy porte?as who, no doubt, could easily afford 350 peso shoes, but I am not sure if they dance tango ;-).
