Not only 70 years old can dance tango. This is not Nuevo, this is not Neo.
Is this Orillero?

Does someone know the couple?

That's performance tango. I saw that couple for the first time at the first
CITA in BAires. They have their own style and I enjoy watching them dance. I
believe his name is Sergio Cortazzo and hers is Alejandra Martignan(s)?.

I don't mean to nit-pick, but actually it is Sergio Natario and Alejandra
Arrue. I did find some info at this webiste
https://www.argentinatango.com/teacher_serigoalejandra.html They are quite
unique in their style, and very nice people as well. During performances,
they have become quite well known for a little play acting gimick where she
gets mad at him, ways her finger, then gives hime a slap. This video is
obviously from a performance but I think their pure social dancing is much
more impressive. They are really wonderful close embrace dancers. By the
way, believe it or not, as wonderful and trim as she looks, she has SIX
children. I have also heard that they will be coming to the USA for a tour
later this year but have not heard what cities they will be visiting. If
you get a chance, they are definitely worth learning from.

Wishing you many great Tangos!!!

Thank you Victor !!! Great couple I loved to know about !

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpTqBYOcVUE

This is not Nuevo, this is not Neo.
This is a performance video, but no more than anything else you can see on
YouTube. There is underlining style here which is very common on stage. But
just labeling it "This is a performance tango" does not solve any mystery
what style it is.

This is done in Tango Orillero style of dancing. Very old, "Traditional". Of
course, amplified by great performers. Many couples dance in this style, but
somehow it is missed in all heated discussions about energetic or "high
amplitude" tangos. May be because it does not require any alternative music?
It is perfect tango. There is loads of music for this style. This style can
very well attract attention of modern young crowd which sometimes need
something more than small-small steps.

Obviously, Tango Orillero was the fist candidate to come to stage since it
is a high-energy dance with jumps, kicks, ganchos and so forth. Very showy.
And lately that is concealing the origin of the style.

Hi Victor,

Thanks for the correction. I guess my eyes are not so good anymore and
neither is that low res video ;-) Anyway, I still stand by my description of
their style as "performance tango".

Sorry, Manuel, I addressed you not mentioning your name, and you paid me
with the same...
Now I do.

I do not think there is a style called "performance tango", or "stage
tango".
On stage they use all dancing styles, and everything else even from other
dances to make impression in accordance with a goal of the performance. It
is a mix of styles, techniques, and even dances. I mean performance like in
a theatre. Of course, performance for us, tango aficionados, is a different
matter.

But any performance dance fall into two types of styles. First is the style
of dance: Nuevo, Orillero, Salon, and so on. That is what unites the dance
with music, places, history, other dancers, methods of artistic impression.
Even with various additions at least one style is vividly present. It forms
a backbone of the performance and usually is connected strongly with music.
Second is a personal style of performers, that is what differentiates the
dancers from other dancers.

Mixing 2 styles in equal manner is difficult and few can do it. It is the
road to creation of something truly fabulous, new, amazing.

Hi Igor and everyone else,

It's all quite OK, I did not respond with the words I should have used. I
don't think I have an argument with anybody :-)... I think the couple is
dancing tango in a performance style. I don't care very much for all the
talk of styles as in orillero, canyenge, salon, nuevo, neo or close embrace.
I was talking about their style being quite nice and obviously done very
professionally. I enjoyed it very much. They are obviously very talented,
professional dancers with their own style and their own special talent. I'm
quite sure they can dance equally well in the milongas as they do in a
stage.

Cheers,

Manuel

Sergio Cortazzo dances a very different style and is way better than these
people. They look fairly mediocre to me. Look at her ganchos. And thanks,
Deby, this has certainly nothing whatsoever to do with orillero.
