Subject: [OT]Poll about blogs or groups
Hello,
I am mulling over setting up a discussion group for issues about dance,
music, and the human body, learning etc. These are issues that have come
up here but are not strictly Argentine tango. I am currently following a
discussion group that is hosted on Yahoo groups. It seems a good service
but there are lots of ads and it can be a bit of hassle to get around it.
I've also thought in terms of blogging my thoughts and then others could
respond to them in a dialogue. I am on two tango lists and that is fine
with me but I think a more centrally located discussion group where one
can go to read content at one's convenience has an appeal.
My idea is that this would be a place for a few people to discuss
theoretical topics like is there a way to teach how to develop feelings in
dance? Can Tim Galwey's ideas of self 1 and self 2 that he developed to
teach tennis be applied to social dancing? How are feelings expressed in
music and dance and how closely are they related in our experience and how
do they differ.
I would appreciate suggestions from members of this group if you've
experience with any of these alternatives. What appeals to you, what you
don't like about them. Any tips as to good services offered on the web
etc.
Thank you. Peace,
Jonathan Thornton

I have been told, that people who are autistic, can possibly manage to learn
to express "feelings" by mimicking other people who are genuinely
experiencing feelings. I have actually danced with someone who did something
like that in his tango. I felt, the way he led our dance was pure kitsch.
Feelings are something that comes naturally once you do not have to
concentrate so hard on technical things anymore. And "developping feelings"
is limited the same way like learning a foreign language is: you cannot be
better in an acquired language than in your mother tongue. And you cannot
feel more during tango than in real life. If real life is all filtered
through your head, tango will tend to be too.
