Subject: Percentile density of dancers
This reminds me to ask:
What is the average population percentage of tango
dancers in your community?
As I have never been to BA, I specifically wonder whether most
everyone out there dances tango as the legends seem to indicate.
Any estimate on the numbers or rather the *percentage* of
tango dancers in your area [and what you know of BA] is
greatly appriciated to quench my curiosity.
As for my share of estimating:
In the little university town of Urbana-Champaign [population ~ 100K],
there are maybe about 100 people who dance tango [counting all
occasional dancers - the hardcore never-miss-a-milonga crowd is
perhaps 1/10th to 1/5th of this] ==> this brings the percentage to
about 0.1% [say within a factor 2]. I'd imagine this is above the average
for US.
Oh, all those poor souls who don't know what they are missing....

Dear Alan et al,
I have often thought some sort of tango census would be interesting, and may
help in working out some trends as well as providing info that may assist in
increasing numbers of new tango dancers.
For those interested in Barcelona, the population of the metropolitan area
is approx 2 million and you can find somewhere to dance tango every night of
the week except Monday. The number of tango dancers, I don't know.
Regards
Dani
