These photos are the most incredible I've ever seen taken candidly at a
milonga.
Better than any documentary film, these pictures explain why we dance tango--
not for fame or fortune or a ticket "out," but because of the connection and
joy.
They are moving, heart-tugging, exquisite.
Phenomenal!
Thank you so much, Alberto, for telling us about them. And thank you, Jingzi,
for taking them.

I'm going to get slammed for saying this, but...
The photography is very good, and the composition/story very coherent
and emotional, pretty top notch.
But if these images capture the reason why people dance tango, it sure
doesn't look...fun.
I must admit I enjoy tango more for the music than the dance; and to me,
it strangely reminds me of the (old time) blues: not just sad, but can
also be funny, and a bit naughty at times.
The photos are great, but nobody smiles, nobody laughs. Eyes
closed...are they sleeping or dead or trying to dream of some other
partners that they rather be dancing with?
I might have a weird perspective with tango, but that perspective have
"fun" in 't. Looking at this slide show, all I see is....my energy
draining out. It reminds me of the simple view that lay people have of
the blues, i.e., that it's just a bunch of singers whining about how
miserable their life is. And that is totally inadequate to describe the
blues. And for the same reason, these photos, IMO, indadequately
describe tango.
Yeah, it's a sad thought that I can whistle to.

Not all the ways of having fun look funny...Take making love for example...(although the positions may seem laughable to some ;->)
> I must admit I enjoy tango more for the music than the dance;
Tango, for its afficionados, is much more than just music, and this is what is so mastefully demonstrated in these images. Why do you chose to flaunt your ignorance to the world wide web?

Why do you feel the need to be nasty to these people?
I assume that you are very young and raw, regardless of your age. The elderly people shown in the pictures Are Whistling in face of illness, of misfortune, of poor life, in the face of approaching death. They demonstrate the pleasures of life victorious, a feat hard to achieve for many. These are people to be praised, not to be made tasteless fun of.

Sadly you have no clue..

The photos capture the tango I love beautifully. If one can not see the deep satisfaction of a three-minute love affair in those dreamy, close-eyes faces, then I am afraid, one has not felt it either - too bad.
There is luckily no "central committee" on tango, so suit yourself to what you like, but please refrain from derogatory comments about that which you do not understand. We do not need anyone's approval. There is enough space at the table for everyone.
