To play a la parrilla, is an expression used by musicians , to play without following the music scores ,a more unformal attitude .
Also ,and this becomes essential, to play a la parrilla, is when the musicians "played" with their instruments for themselves , after the show was ended and they were alone.

Troilo-Grela duet started that way, the two musicians playing on the small hours aftert the show.

Salgan -De Lio also , they stayed after the band finished the show , and "played"

Recently , Pane -bandoneon and Juanjo Dominguez -guitar, made a CD "Un placer" ,awarded the best tango Cd of the year. The sound mixer engineer said it was the sweetest and shortest session he had ever worked. Pane came with his bandoneon , Juanjo with his guitar, and they begun playing a la parrilla as they used to do 30 years before at Caqo 14, after the show ended. Once they decided what themes would record, they played on one evening and left the studio. Two genius .

There is a young woman ,. Sonia Possetti -pianist- , that plays with Damian Bolotin -violin-,and now has her own quintet.

It is interesting what she said in a recent interview, I will translate the relevant part.

I always listened Tango music. I studied Classic Music , but when the moment of decision arrived , I decided on tango and folklore. Through classic music learning I always found difficult to get together my growing nowledge , with all the things that were outside the Academy.
Afterwards, I had the wanting to use the music to express myself , and I could achieve this with Tango and folklore.
Anyway, I value to have been able to grasp the technique that came with the study of classic music. I don tknow if with popular music would have been the same.
Actually (2002) the way to learn tango is to go to a school . Many years ago , the knowledge could be obtained playing within orchestras.
Fortunately exists the School of Popular Music from Avellaneda ( the place where I learn and graduate) , beacuse the school gives a thoroughly and necessary training nad, aditionally, you practice many of the things that you may do outside , at the street , like "to play a la parrilla" .
