Hmmm...I noticed on some Gardel DVDs I just bought in BsAs that they are
marked as NTSC, as if it was a quality of the disc and not of the
player...I'm trying to remember if there were two piles at Zival's (PAL &
NTSC) or not.

NOT SO - DVDs are in digital format and may PLAY on any player, but the
output from the player is region-dependent (unless you have a multi-region
device)...To play AND view both NTSC AND PAL DVDs, you need either a
multi-region player which has multi-format outputs.

Another more widely available option is to "play" such DVDs on a computer
using one of the many DVD software packages, and possibly use a video-out on
the computer to run it to your TV. I believe this would work, but since my
only Argentine DVD's are the aforementioned Gardel movies in NTSC, I can't
really test this hypothesis.

( there are several available here in the USA for not much more than a
standard DVD player).

Hmmm again...last time I looked for such a player (four years ago) they were
around $500. I have often thought it would be good to have such a player
for watching videos purcahsed in BsAs. Any recommendations?

There are several internet sites selling multi-system DVD players for around $200 or less.

Try Barrel of Monkeys.
        https://www.barrel-of-monkeys.com/

The model I have is available for $159.99.

NTSC/PAL/SEACAM, Karaoke, Progessive Scan.

Cheers, John G.
