Subject: Question for list members about announcments.
On January 23 a post was made to this list announcing a milonga in Iowa.
Since then more and more events have been announced on this list.
Yesterday there were four. There is already one this morning.
Years ago the administrator of this list set up Tango-A for announcements
in order to keep this discussion list from being clogged with
announcements. There is no longer active administration of the list.
Tango-A is still up and functioning.
If you want to receive announcements of tango events all around the world
on this list all you need to do is remain quiet. Then as more and more
promoters see events listed they will think, "it must be okay no one has
said anything and if that event is promoted I may as well announce my
event."
It was at one time the intention that Tango-L be for discussion and
Tango-A will be for event announcements. I for one continue to support
that, but everyone's voice should count. What do you think?
The last time I objected to an event posting, I received the same email
through 3 anonymizer services asking me "who died and made you king?".
Anonymous emails I receive will be deleted unread. At one time it was the
policy of this list that no event announcements were to be posted here. I
am simply reminding everyone of that policy which I have found hospitable
for discussion and I prefer it remain in place, but perhaps the consensus
of the list has changed? What is your preference?
peace,
Jonathan Thornton

I'm the one who have posted an announcement today on the list. About the
event we are organizing in Paris.
I thought that people would be interested to know about it and then I posted
it without putting any attention to rules - I have to honestly say I didn't
know about -. I didn't either know about TANGO-A.
Please accept my apologizes if I've bother any of you on the list with my
posted message.
I do thank you at the same time for informating me more about the rules of
this list - wich are actually very well explained on the very first email
the tango list sent to me and I 've just read carefully a few minutes ago -.
I do agree that it's wrong to use a disscusion forum for publiciting.
I've just joined Tango - A ... where I'll anounce my next events!
Please accept my apoligizes.
Best regards to you all.

Totally agree with "segregation of announcements" policy.

Don't care.
I subscribe to both tango-A and -L. So I see them all anyway. Are there a
lot of people who don't? They're the only ones with a functional issue, as
far as I can see. For me, the subject line categorizing geographical area
makes it a non-issue, whether they show up on -A or -L. They still show up
in my inbox. I still easily delete the ones not relevant to me.

for me it makes an issue!
keep 'em seperated ... p l e a s e !!!
those folks here who are only on english speaking tango-lists:
the dutch tango-nl and the german tango-de nearly get spammed by
those evercontinuing repeated announcements!!! :-(((
A for A and L for L ... !!!

Jay,
you may have noticed that Tango-L is not limited to America, it has members
in many different countries all over the world. And I , for exemple, really
do not need to be notified of three hour events happening 7000 km away from
me, these announcements ARE a nuisance to at least some of the members. I am
sure that in the States, people also will not often attend short events
which take a ten hour drive to get to. Those who want to know can subscribe
to Tango-A, for the rest of us these announcements sent to Tango-L are no
more than spam.
