Julio Balmaceda asked me to post this correction to Astrid's previous
statement that "Balmaceda is the student of Nito Garcia."
Julio is not, nor has he ever been, the student of Nito Garcia. Julio is
very proud of the fact that his ONLY teacher was his father, the legendary
milonguero Miguel Balmaceda. Miguel taught for many years at Salon Canning
and was the first or one of the first teachers to many of the biggest names
in tango, including Carlos Copello and Alicia Monti, Miguel Zotto and many
others. He taught these now-famous stage dancers how to dance on the social
floor, and he tunred out a generation of people who not only excelled on the
stage, but are the new generation of milongueros.

At the risk of adding to the confusion, let me explain:
my "statement" that Julio was a student from Nito is based on what I was
told by Argentine dancers present at the welcoming party for Julio and
Corinna, when they came to Tokyo at the same time like Nito. Nito was also
present at that party. The same friends told me, that Nito was also an early
teacher of Osvaldo Zotto, a fact which is no longer openly acknowledged by
Osvaldo nowadays.
As this is second hand information, I cannot guarantee for the validity of
either statement.. Will ask Nito when I see him.
