I agree. In addition to Tango X 2 and her own CD, she appeared in the
Carlos Saura movie Tango. She portrayed the contemporary singer working
to match her phrasing to film footage.

The cover photo on the April 2003 issue of ReporTango
<https://www.reportango.com/> has a photo of Junior Cervila and Roxana
Fontan and features an interview of them inside. I do not have the
magazine in front of me, but they are married. I cannot recall whether
they have a child.

Also inside the magazine is an advertisement for a May 20 show in NYC that
features among others Mariela Franganillo dancing with Junior, Hector del
Curto on bandoneon, Roxana Fontan singing and Pablo Aslan on bass. If I
am not mistaken, the producers will attempt to find the financial backing
make the show into a recurring production if the May 20 performance proves
to be successful.

With best regards,
Steve

Dear List,

I am glad Linda mentioned Roxana Fontan. Her work with the Broadway show
"Tango x2" was where I first heard her, and I was captivated especially by
"El dia que me quieras" from that CD.

Deb and I were fortunate to hear Roxana at Club de Vino on our last BsAs
trip, accompanied by the fantastic Piazzolla-inspired "Quinteto La Camorra."
Listening to her CD again, composing this message, I am struck by the
elegance with which she interacts with her accompanying musicians - she
laces her voice like a continual stream of delightful follower's adornos in
response to the proposals of a strong and generous leader. We were fortunate
to study with her a little (not enough!) and she's even more delightful and
emotionally available in person than she is on the record.

On her own CD (entitled "Roxana Fontan"), "El dia de me quieras" is covered
here again, spectacularly, with an arrangement and accomapniment by Pablo
Ziegler. For dancing I especially like "Milonga de mis amores", arranged by
Pablo Mainetti with a clearly danceable, unvarying milonga rhythm. Other
songs from this CD - "Tormenta" and "Milonga triste" are danceable when the
mood on the floor is more Pugliese-like, alternating legato sections with
driving "yumba" rhythms. When the dance mood gets even thicker, and the
music no longer need be clearly rhythmic to invoke emotional dance
encounters, her renditions of "Adios Nonino" and "Niebla del Riachuelo" grab
me, mostly because of her expressive range within the song. For me, anytime
a singer can make my hair stand on end with emotional intensity in the
middle of a dance, there's something in that for me to share with a dance
partner.

But the surprise kicker on this CD is the last song, "Noches de Atenas" by
Horacio Pettorosi, both arranged for guitar and guitarron, and performed by,
the awesome guitarista Juanjo Dominguez. I?d have to call this a "tango
swing vals", and as a DJ I'd play it almost as an alternative tango because
the waltz rhythm is so much slower than normal valses - but this is one
infectious piece of music! I couldn't sit still for this one. If you like
playing with rhythmic possibilities in vals timing, you should really enjoy
it!

No financial interest, just a fan!

All the best,

"Yes; however my recollection is that Viviana Vigil was frustrated that Tita
sings the words so fast and she can't keep up with her speed+articulation."

Actually, I'm pretty sure that was Roxana Fontan. Speaking of which, why
has
no one mentioned her? She's probably more suited for listening than dancing,
but
still...she has quite a voice. I've had the chance to hear her live twice,
and I started to
like "El dia que me quieras" because of her.

Of course, I'm sure I'm missing certain subtleties, so I'd be curious to
hear what others think. Please email me your responses privately.

Thanks,
Linda
