Subject: Speeded up 78's
Dan, you bring up a very intersting subject. One of my
friends has an extensive collection of tango 78's, and
the difference between these and the CD's is quite
unmistakeable in some instances. It's like two
different pieces of music being played, as you say.
I also noticed this discrepancy in other kinds of
music. I've listened to some 78's of Caruso, for
instance, and he sounded entirely different from the
way he sounds on the CD counterpart. That's why 95% of
my opera collection is on LP's. And I'm trying to
expand my tango LP collection as well. And 78's. For
the same reason. Where do you get your records?
I'm technologically challeneged, so can't offer any
concrete suggestions about how to fix the problem. But
it certainly IS a problem. Great that you addressed
this issue. Can we write our congressman? Sue the CD
companies? Because without music, and good music, what
have we got? No tango!! Can't have that. That's for
sure. ;-)
