I went together with my partner through the same experiences as described by Sergio.
We learned type B tango first. This was very gratifying as long as we danced in our small milongas. It was impossible for us to dance the first time we went to Buenos Aires. We did not know how. We learned type A then. Now we can dance under any circumstances of space and music. I think that it is possible to learn Salon (B) with all its complex choreography and at the same time to learn to adjust to dancing in crowded areas.

My impression is that those that learn type B (salon) first are able to learn anything after wards but those that learn type A (milonguero) first most likely will dance like that for the rest of their lives. It is very difficult for them to change the technique to make the transition .

I resent the use of words such as "true" or "fake" to refer to a tango style the way Lois does it. They are(imo) all true.
