I have actually seen boots designed for dancing, complete with Cuban
heel, and suede soles. They zipped up the side. But I didn't like the
feel of them, so opted for shoes, instead. As I've progressed, I've
found that the shoe wasn't near as important anymore. They really helped
when I first started dancing. Most of the time now I dance in Justin
Ropers, yes, cowboy boots with a very small profile; rounded toes, and
leather soles that extend very little beyond the foot. I find them
extremely comfortable. The only time I put on the suede soles is when
I'm on a really fine wood floor, and feel that they are probably a
little kinder to the good wood. I hate wearing $110.00 dance shoes on
non-wood surfaces, like the beautiful pavilion at Cheeseman Park in
Denver. For me, granite, tile, concrete, etc, call for good sturdy
leather soles, and my ropers fit the bill exceedingly well!
