Subject: Tango CD4s - GOT

Is is true that not all tracks of a CD are of the same quality. It is very difficult to fin a Tango CD GOT ( Generally Oustanding Tracks)

One exception to this , is the series "RCA Victor 1OO anios" issued on 2001 year , to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the registration in 1901 of the famous brand" his master4s voice".

The problem is the collection is not presented at the music stores as a separate collection , at least in Buenos Aires. So you have to be browsing the shelves to see wether the artist you are looking for , has a CD from this collection.

Once you are inside, after choosing "English" option, if you type into the box "Search" the entry 4RCA Victor 1004 you will see the collection of Tango recordings plus some folklore material that it is not bad also .
It is enough to enter 4RCA Victor 1004 for the enquiry , anios is not required.

All records are made with a quality of recording , better than the standard quality that RCA produces. Most of the covers are drawings of the faces of the artists by Hermenegildo Sabat , the gifted uruguayan painter.


There are some absent masterpieces unfortunately . Maestro Pugliese has no CD, also Tanturi- Castillo,Cals ,Canaro.

But there are CD4s from D Agostino - Vargas, Orquesta Tipica Victor , Sexteto Tango with Emilio Balcarce, Julian Plaza, Ruggiero ..... well, the balance is a positiie one.

It is also possible to se the content of each CD by clicking the mouse over the cover, and listen a part of the music clicking the icon of the loudspeaker. There is also sometimes another icon of a musical note, this means you can order the sheet of the music separately if you want.

Zival4s sell this CD4s , and you may find them randomly at Yenny music stores, and Miles , a music stores at Palermo Soho ( Gurruchaga & Guatemala). I think Zival4s have fair prices, the other music stores are a bit abusive .

I still don t know how the music stores do not offer the collection , complete, in a box . They made you to dig shelf by shelf, maybe is part of the emotion of the search :):)

Of course you can use internet to buy ...... but who knows, maybe you found by chance that CD that you have been looking for 2 years, as it happens to me last saturday, when found "Afiche" recorded by Jose Larralde, within a CD of folklore music.


Some last comments of this RCA Victor 100 anios

Carlos Gardel - his Cd includes his last recorded message altogether with Lepera , to greet all their fans , before their tour tragically ended.

Carlos Di Sarli - the voice of Maestro Di Sarli greets the listener , before the last track is played (El choclo)

Anibal Troilo y sus cantores. Includes one female singer , Elva Veron. Also a duet Ruiz- Marino for Palomita Blanca

Anibal Troilo - this is a separate CD , with instrumental versions only , including Nocturno para mi barrio, with the voice of Pichuco

Astor Piazzolla. includes the Regina live recording of "the four seasons" with his quintet (AGri-Manzi-Cachi Tirao-Kicho Diaz-Piazzolla), if not one of the best performances , one of the most emotive, as per my humble judgment
