Subject: Tango Digest of 20 AUGUST 2005
There is an article on the tango of buenos Aires in tthe week end edition of the Financial Times of London.
https://news.ft.com/cms/s/87f199d4-1117-11da-adc0-00000e2511c8.html
This article is very well written and summarize a few things
( like there are 74 different milongas that take place every week in Bs As -
15 of which started up in the last year alone. In the year 2000 there were just 12 )
we also learn a few new things.( like who heard of Hugo Marcel composer of "Que Ispa" ? )
On August 17 th, Julio Fernandez pointed to members of this List an article in the
Globe & Mail of toronto about the Tango of Montreal: Canada`s tango town
https://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20050816.wtrtango0817/BNStory/specialTravel/
There are beautiful photograph about the best known outdoor milonga of Montreal located in the Park St-Viateur.
For all the merit of the argumentation presented by Deanna Mac DONALD of Montreal
about the quality of its Tango Festival ( organized by the tango Libre ) and the different locations
where you can dance every day of the week, I think there is something missing in this article.
The tango culture is not only dancing and what is missing is the vitality of the music scene
of Montreal that cannot be summarized only by a quick reference to INTACKTO who is strong
on South American folklore influence but not as strong on the tango side. There are at least 6 groups:
Romulo Larrea , Quartango, Denis Plante, Victor Simon and the Sweatshop Tango Ensemble,
Norteno and now: Jose Maria Gianelli who will launch a new CD, TANGO REO TANGO LOCO
on Friday 26 August at the Tangueria. Only new songs, many tangos,
that you can dance to and that ends with a tipical "chan-chan" . TANGO REO, TANGO LOCO
is a beautiful CD that speaks of the reality of an Argentine immigrant and Porteno in
North America for more than 30 years..
Lyrics by Jose Maria Gianelli

Good afternoon Listeros
I have received this additional comment
from Keith Elshaw of Montreal
> Hi Daniel!
>
> There is a new wonderful tango group in Montreal, Paradox, lead by Carmen
> Piculeata and featuring Ioana Gandrabur. Hope you can catch them next week
> at Tangueria. People loved them last time in their debut.

My own comments on PARADOX
Carmen Piculieata also leads another group of Romanian Gypsy music.
Carmen Piculeata is the violonist who plays on
the TANGO TANGO album of year 2000.
Iona Gandrabur is a guitarist virtuoso that we
have received on our radio program last summer.
She has the purity of voice and the acute listening
ear of a beautiful non-voyan.
