Subject: Tango-A (NOT L!) is for event Announcements
Tango-A is a list set up some years back to post event announcements.
Tango-L is for discussion. The moderators used to keep these announcements
off the list but there is no one moderating the list at present. Lucy
Lynch is archiving the Tango-A list and the readme file that tells how to
subscribe/unsubscribe/post is also at that side. Please anyone subscribed
to this list who may want to post event announcements subscribe yourself
to Tango-A and posts your events on that list and not here.
Thank you, Jonathan Thornton

Subject: Re: Tango-A (NOT L!) is for event Announcements
I received an anonymous email from someone upset with my posting this.
I endeavored to be polite but I may have missed something.
This individual asked me "who had died and made me king". They used the
phrase "jumped on".
I wish they hadn't chosen to contact me anonymously. I try to be open to
differing points of view. I noticed that the reminder signature is being
appended to Tango-L posts now. It has not been used for awhile.
I'm not the king, but more to the point I'm not the list moderator. When I
saw the second announcement I decided to post a reminder thinking that
without a moderator that people seeing events announcements would take it
to be customary and that the problem that the Tango-A list was started to
handle would reoccur. I was not trying to jump on anyone or be rude but
was trying to head off developments as a "good citizen". I'm pleased to
see that the reminder sig file is once again being appended to messages.
The writer suggested I might "police" other types of off topic posts. I
won't as they tend to be from certain individuals and any of us can write
them. I addressed Event Announcements because as a class there can be
quite a few events posted. They are on topic for tango, but because they
are usually of regional interest only and that there can be so many of
them some years back a separate list was created for them. I was simply
directing the event posting to the appropriate list. I intended it as a
pubic service information announcement and not a policing action. I was
thinking that perhaps some folks were unaware of the existence of Tango-A
and the division in topics between the two lists. I think it was a good
solution at the time and remains a good solution.
Perhaps I reacted too soon. I could have waited to see if the posting
reached the proportions that led to the creation of Tango-A in the first
place. It was seeing one right after the other that led me think the
trickle could become a torrent.
I apologize if I expressed myself in a way that offended anyone, that was
not my intent.
peace, Jonathan Thornton

Please do not apologize, I was wandering why somebody was inviting and
expecting me to travel from Seattle to a neighborhood milonga in New York
or other places and pay for all the expenses.
Tango-L subscribers should be intelligent enough to follow the
instructions and use Tango-A for event announcements.
