To Hernan Gomez and Tango-L
In reference to the comment that VOZ<tangovoz@hotmail> gave about the milongas in NYC, we all know that there are not milongas like in BA here in NYC as VOZ said but to say that La Nacional is the the worst, it's far from the truth, I believe is one of the more authentic Milongas in NYC if not the most! please Hernan go co confianza che!! and enjoy "La Nacional" and ask for Coco, Juan Pablo, Maria Jose, Carlos DeChei, Bibiana, El Pive de Avellaneda, Ruben, Orlando, me and many more of your countrymen that would not change this Milonga for other, even if the other one would be free!!!!!!
And to "VOZ" (sorry, no signature!) I think that it's of very bad taste to share this comment (even in Spanish), to this list, this comment it is very personal and should be sent in the same manner to who ever ask for it!

Even the 'adopted' Argentines love La Nacional in NYC!!!
We are lucky to have such organizers who with love and hard work give us the
most authentic of Argentine milonga experience without having to travel far
from home.

The Clarin, the daily newspaper of Buenos Aires, published a story on the
tango scene in New York City in their Travel Section on Sunday April 14.
Here is the link and I will also paste the text below with a (poor) English

The 2X4 in Manhattan:
The tango doesn't stop, and milongas are already happening even in Central
Park. The scene in New York, a puro corte y quebrada
Sunday April 11, 2004
by Ricardo Mosso
A city like New York has many classic images: the Statue of the Liberty, the
Empire State Building set among the acres of skyscrapers in Manhattan, and
the sculptures of the Rockefeller Center. But the news is that, in keeping
with its multicultural spirit, its streets harbor every day of the week a
group of twenty-odd places in which they dance with cortes y quebradas and
listen to orchestras playing the most porteno of music: tango.
The traveler who would like to plan a trip through the energetic tango scene
of New York which legend says was started in 1985 with the arrival of the
broadway show Tango Argentino will surely be surprised. A measure of the
fever? In April, May and June there will be tango concerts in the schools
of the district.
To start the trip, why not begin with one of the most visited places of the
city, the mythical Central Park. For three years now this enormous green
space has been armed with a milonga between the statues of Shakespeare and
Columbus, near the entrance at Fifth Avenue and 66th Street. "The tango
places in New York are within a area of some 50 blocks and can all be
reached by subway, cab, or foot", says Carlos Quiroga, an Argentine that the
city adopted 5 years ago and Publisher of the specialized magazine
Reportango.
The traveler can continue along the path to La Nacional, in the neighborhood
of Chelsea, which operates on Thursdays on West 14th Street between 7th and
8th avenue on the second floor. Then go on to the meeting at Chelsea Market,
a specialty market populated by cafes and antique shops. Under the old
metal fans, on Saturdays in the winter a free milonga develops there.
The trip can finish at a place at the water's edge, near the tip of the
island of Manhattan: with interesting views of the Brooklyn Bridge and the
silhouette of the skyscrapers and old ships. On Sundays from May to
October the harbor zone of South Street Seaport (on Pier 16) there is an
outdoors milonga which is baptized 'Tango Porteno'.
Here it is modern, beautiful and impressive. But it has another virtue: New
York is a city that takes the best of the cultures of the world and makes
them its own. Perhaps the tango is one more example of that open attitude.
Sentiment:
Jennifer Bratt, New York Tanguera
"Most New Yorkers do not know that there is a subculture of tango in the
City nor that there are places to dance every night. But over the four
years that I have been dancing I am seeing the scene evolve. All the
tangueros that I know have very strong opinions on how one should dance: I
thought that something that inspires these sort of feelings has to be very
good."

libre bautizada Tango Porteqo.
Sentimiento:
Jennifer Bratt, Tanguera Neoyorquina
