Subject: Thanks to the tango communities in Osaka and Kobe
Dear List members,
I just returned from Japan, and cannot wait to extend my sincere gratitude
to the loveliest hosts of Argentine Tango communities in Osaka and Kobe of
Japan.
Although they have not established their presence at the web, and perhaps
the communities are still younger and smaller in number than those in Tokyo,
yet, they welcome tango with the same amount of passion if not more. Some
of them would even travel occasionally, a 3 hours journey each way on their
Shinkansen (bullet train), to Tokyo just to attend the Milonga there.
They went out of their way creating tango cafi locally, spotting places for
classes and for practices. In the past Saturday March 30th, the Loco Tango
of Osaka endowed the community with their 10 hours non-stop party at a local
Community Centre. To top it all, the organizer of the Community Centre
even pitched in additional food and beverages, extended the party hours just
to make sure everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event. 80 percent of the
dancers had been there for solid 7 hours. Considering milongas in Tokyo
only last between 2 to 3 hours plus the necessary expenditure, this party in
Osaka is indeed a rare event to illustrate their enthusiasm and hospitality.
I understand that they will organize similar parties in the months where
there is a 5th Saturday. Whoever interested is welcome to contact me until
their website is created.

Bibi,
milongas in Tokyo last an average of 4 hours. Arts City is from 7.30 til
midnight. Asahi square is from 5- 10pm. Suiyokai and Club Tanguissimo are
the very short ones, and so is tango Orillero, but they all last at least 3
hours. Arts City occasionally runs an all night milonga, like for New Years.
I don't know til what time exactly, since I left at 4am. Gustavo's practica
used to go on from 5.30 til midnight sometimes. Tropicana opens at about 6
or 7 and stays open til 1am or so, and the waiter leaves on a bus, after the
trains have long stopped sometimes. Please check more carefully, before you
spread information like this about Tokyo.
