Subject: Tigre Viejo de Osvaldo Fresedo
Steve / everyone
Fresedo's early instrumentals are superb aren't they? Tigre Viejo is the
pick of the bunch. It was on the Disco Latina disc which as we all know is
long deleted.
However it's not the case that you can't get Tigre Viejo commercially
anymore. It's on BMT607, the Fresedo double album in Blue Moon's "Los
Grandes Orquestas" series, released last year. Of the other tracks you
recommend Arrabalero is also on this album. The fidelity is really quite
good. There is also a superb arrangement of La Cachila.
Arrabalero and La Cachila (but not Tigre Viejo) are also on the single album
BMT024. It's a very good album although the double album is better value for
money.
There was an album of early Fresedo instrumentals (1927-1928) on EMI/Pampa.
Just 12 tracks but *very* good fidelity. Unfortunately none of the Pampa
discs seem to be available any more. If anyone wants the track listing for
the Fresedo album please contact me. One of these days I'll get round to
putting it up on my site
