Subject: trance and close embrace
Hello List,
Yeah, I know it's been six weeks or better since I first posed my
question, "Is it possible for a follower to experience tango
trance/nirvana in anything other than milonguero, close embrace, tango,
but here are my observations on the results.
While I'd hoped this would be an easy yes or no, scientific poll, it
didn't come close to working out that way. Every follower who responded
had more to add in the way of clarification, etc. But to try to boil it
down.....I was wrong. It must be possible, sort of, I guess!
Out of about forty respondents, approximately 60% said no categorically;
that there was no way to experience a tango trance while dancing open,
or salon. But many of these said its very hard to come by, and that in
many cases they can very well enjoy dancing open more than close, since
there are more experienced dancers of the open style, and it could be a
long time again before they get to dance with a good Milonguero.
The other forty percent said that yes, they can have a "magical", or
"truly magnificent", or "extraordinary" dance while dancing open. Only a
few of them used the term "trance", or "nirvana", so this begs the
question....can you know what this "trance" is until you experience it,
and how can you experience it unless you do a lot of Tango
Milonguero....?
Quote.........<<<< I generally prefer dancing close. But, I have
definitely had some (a few, not many but significant) superlative,
giggly or trance like or just very amazing open and/or nuevo
dances.>>>>>>>>
Quote.......<<<< I can sometimes have great close embrace dances with
less experienced leads,
although experience does count--*even* in close embrace, experience
counts a lot. But in order to have those fabulous experiences dancing
open, I HAVE to be dancing with a very very very good dancer, who really
feels the tango, has excellent balance and
really takes care of me.>>>>>>
Quote.....<<<< I know several open dancers who can give the start of
that trance feel, but only a select few can give that sense of deep
connection and intimacy that close embrace gives.>>>>>
I even had one response from a male follower who said that he'd never
experienced the tango trance outside of a milonguero lead!
My girlfriend recently asked me if I do really feel my partner's
heartbeat....at first I said yes, then sometimes, then I started
wondering. Now, in addition to becoming acquainted with my partner by
breathing, I search for that heartbeat as well. Her question has helped
make me a better dancer, I think....
I've nothing against dancing salon, or open...I can do it fairly well
when necessary, and even see the necessity of learning more of it should
I want to dance in Europe, etc, etc....but Tango Milonguero will always
be my favorite, and closest to my heart.
Regards to all, and looking forward to Valentango!
