Subject: Using iTunes to make cortinas?

My last question for the day - Recently I've been using iTunes to try to
make the compilations to use at milongas since my Linux partition and
software I used to use has joined the Great Graveyard of Lost Zeroes and
Ones in the Sky. Is it possible to make the short snippets to use as
cortinas using iTunes? I haven't figured out a way to do so yet, but was
wondering if anyone had done so. If it's not possible, how do the DJs
make CDs to use without a dual CD player-recorder/mixer board setup?

If this is on an FAQ somewhere, please direct me to same - I haven't
been able to locate one that addresses this problem.

Thanks tons,
Michael

After trying several approaches I have settled on this: the best, most
powerful and most flexible way to make cortinas is to use volume
control of your sound board, amplifier or speakers as you DJ. This
also happens to be rather old fashioned way to make cortinas.

PS (Milonga Promotion): This is how I will make cortinas at the
upcoming Tango in the Park milonga at Soda Springs park in Manitou
Springs (this Sunday, 3-7 pm).

Hi Michael,

In iTunes-

Select the song you wish to make a cortina with
Find out the place in the song in Minuets and seconds that you wish for the
cortina to start, and the time that you wish it to end.

Press CMD-I, or Clover-I or get info. This should open up the background
command window for the song.

Select the options tab at the top of the window.

At the bottom of the pane you should see a Start and end option.

Put the start time you selected earlier in min:sec and the end time in
min:sec.

Then apply it to the window, close it and test. If you want to revert back
to the original length just erase what you put in, deselect the checkbox
next to each field, and close. If you would like to start or end the cortina
at a different place you can adjust the min sec time you entered earlier.

If you make a duplicate of the song and rename it say...cortina 1, then you
will still have a full length version of the original; doctoring the
duplicate.

Hope this works for you.

Mark

PS. If you create a play list you can import the same cortina multiple
times from the main library without the song copying over and over again;
then again you have a play list that does not change with the mood of the
dancers.

I have found a few places on the net where, free to use, short
segments of tunes can be found... Freeplaymusic.com being one....

p.s. For what it's worth, and others may have solved it, but I've
stopped using i_tunes because of there being no pause between tunes.

Although I did like the volume 'leveling' feature... So, fyi, I have
found foobar2000, which has many features, including spacing, and
*realgain*. A flattening of volumes to produce one general output
level, from all the whimsically chosen record levels that cd's are
done at.

Check free software at
https://audacity.sourceforge.net. It lets you slice
and dice snippets of music any way you might want to.

www.dbpoweramp.com also has some pieces that let you
convert and record music in your computer and on CDs.
Most parts are free, there are a couple parts that are
inexpensive.

For those with Windows,
I think Movie Maker is pre-installed and you can do some simple
editing on audio/video files using this software.
