Information about the visa waiver program is available on the Immigration and Naturalization Service's (INS)web page

www.ins.gov

Click on search and type in "visa waiver program"
Click on the first choice "Abstract". The program is listed in full. Unless it hasn't been updated, Argentina is still listed as a participant in the program.

It was a pilot(temporary) program made permanent by the Congress last year.

The State Department issues the visa. However, INS determines if an alien can be admitted into the United States. This is done at inspection at airports and seaports though most visitors to the United States come by plane.

Because of heightened security, foreign travelers need to have ALL of their documents available to present to the inspectors.

Michael , Argentina has been taken out from the program, as from 0 hour of
february 21st,2002.
Yesterday night there were some trouble with departing flight from Ezeiza
airport , since American , United and Aerolineas Argentinas had late night
flights that were going to be in the air, when the new visa requirement was
started at 0 hour.
American and United departed.
Aerolineas Argentinas waited until it was given assurance that passengers on
board were going to be received in Miami without being fined for not having
visa.
The fine is U$S 3.000, 200 passengers over Aerolineas plane, this mean u$s
600.000 to be paid by Aerolineas, since the airline is responsable for the
control of valid documentation. But they were approved to take their
passengers without visa , just for that flight only. Today february 21st ,
all argentine passengers has to produce visa to board the planes to USA at
Ezeiza airport

Dear All,

Yes, Argentina has been removed from the visa waiver program. The INS

Here is a link to the Justice Department directive terminating Argentina from
the visa waiver program.

The interim Federal Regulation should be published today.
