Subject: A Xmas Tango message
Dear Friends from Tango list
First of all, a Merry Xmas for all of you and your beloved ones/significant other .
I was thinking about what kind of message could be sent concerning Tango and Xmas. How does the Xmas Song said ? " is a time of rejoicing ?"
Well, then we can rejoice with Tango news
1) I watch El Arranque performing live on Friday 19th night, or better to say early saturday , since it was already 1.30 am when they started, after finishing their last performance on Club del Vino round the corner. This performance at La Viruta, is part of a tradition of this group, to end the working year there. They sound great , with a new second bandoneon , and a new electric guitar ( new is a tricky word, I mean they are not the same musicians that record "Cabulero" their first album).
The singer Ariel Ardit was also there, but it was a surprise to me to watch and listen Lidia Borda singing with the group. In fact they presented the new CD of Lidia " Tu palida voz" . She sung like an angel , specially the tangos "Vida mia", "Fruta amarga" , "Yuyo verde" and many others, some in duet with Ariel Ardit.
I was very happy to see this new selection of tangos that El Arranque has chosen . It is not I do not like their previous CD, the second one, but it was a bit more "jazz", with recordings with Wynton Marsalis at New York. This CD of Lidia Borda is full of romantic tangos, some sung with a piano only , some with this new selection of musicians of El Arranque. And a bonus track, a little piece of Lidia singing a capella , no instruments
2) There are a lot of new tangos popping up, with young artists and not so young . A brief summary
2.1. Ariel Iaies is presenting "Nocturna" his new CD , with Pablo Mainetti playing bandoneon .
2.2.Sonia Possetti already present their CD "Mano de obra" with almost all the compositions made by her and some with Damian Bolotin , the violinist that makes the duet
2.3. Erica Di Salvo and her orchestra El Desquite is playing better everyday, they already have a CD released , that has new tangos , but also old tangos like El Choclo, El Andariego, A Orlando Goqi, played with a Pugliese flavour that is extremely beautiful.
2.4. Alejandro Dolina is presenting his first Cd of Tangos "Tangos del Bar del Infierno" . Alejandro has a daily radio broadcast that is becoming a legend. He wrote many books about Buenos Aires also. And he was always pressed to release his tangos. He presented some years ago an opereta called "Lo que me costo el amor de Laura" , that included many musicians invited like Serrat , Mercedes Sosa, Julia Zenko , etc..
And also Dolina had a TV program "El bar del infierno" a very interesting proposal on TV, a short programme of 15 minutes after midnight, where he bring singers, musicians and actors to make a small representation. Part of this material is now recorded as Tangos , with the help of Mizrahi the composer
2.5. Talking about Mizrahi, he is presenting with his mate (forgive me I don t remember his name in this moment , shame on my weak memory) , their show Demoliendo Tangos
2.6. Salgan and De Lio released a new CD, Tangos en el Club del Vino , recorded live , is also an excellent recording.
2.7. Anibal Arias is performing with Orquesta Escuela de Tango
2.8. the girls from the Sexteto La del Abasto are also performing, also La Chicana is presenting their new CD Tango agazapado .
2.9. Bajo Fondo is making performances , they make a Rave last week.
2.10 Leopoldo Federico is making the warming up of his orchestra, a thing that always makes him so happy, to gather his musicians.
There are a lot of news , but I can t follow them all, they are simply too much .
3) Last but not the least yesterday , the warm up contest for the Metropolitan Tournament of Tango Dance was launched, with a similar scheme than 2002 year, therefore a list of milongas and dates will be published soon , with the time table for competition . The final couples selected will represent Buenos Aires city at the V International Tango Festival on march 2004
4) And CITA is in march also !!!!
I wonder where I can borrow an extra pair of legs for dancing :):)Besides my dancing partner of course . Better to say then , where we can borrow an extra pair of tango "4 legs" set ready made ( maybe the Looney tunes ACME ??):):)
