Some of my tango cds contain rancheras, delightful country style waltzes
with a discernable OOM-pah-pah.
In my experience though, rancheras are never played at milongas which
seems a shame. I love "Mate amargo".

I would like to obtain more information about rancheras ie suggestions
of how to dance them and whether people feel they should or should not
be played at milongas.

Hi Richard and List,

In Colorado, you will not find Rancheras played at the milongas. But, with a large hispanic population, there are a number of dance clubs here which cater to the spanish speaking crowds. The music played is largely cumbias, nortenas and rancheras. All three are danced very, very close and very rhythmically. Most of the dancers are "untrained", but most dance very well.

You may have to venture away from the milongas and into another type of club to watch how rancheras are danced. But, I find it well worth the trip.

Great Dances to All,

Lisa
