I am looking for a tango titled "Celas" (Jealousy). My boyfriend heard it
played in Cuba last summer with only a guitarist and a violinist. I have
found one version on the internet but I cannot find out who the original
composer is only that it was from Buenos Aires. Does anyone know where I can
find different versions of this song?

Thank you.
Sali

Track #16 on Florindo Sassone's CD <<Tangos De Oro>> is "Celos",
which means "jealousy" in English. The composer is given as J. Gade.

Sali,

"Celos" (and not "Celas") is the Spannish translation of the French word
"Jalousie". "Jalousie" is one of the most famous tango in the world. The
funny part is that it has a French title and wasn't created by an
Argentinian composer in Buenos Aires but by a Danish composer, Jacob Gane,
in Copenhagen.

You may find information on this song at the following link:
www.tangojalousie.com, a site dedicated to Jacob Gade and his foundation.

Un abrazo,

Fernando De Jota

There is a great rendition of it on the soundtrack of "The man who cried",
the movie by Sally Potter after "Tango lesson". You really get the idea, if
you listen to that.

The tango Jalousy was written by Jacob Gade (1879-1963), the best known piece
of music written by any Dane.
It was created for a silent movie. He was the leader of the orchestra at the
Palads Cinema in Copenhagen.
