I spent some time looking into the music stores for new tango CDs releases in Buenos Aires.

I was really looking for a CD of Neo Tango, but instead I found a very interesting CD called "Buenos Aires Tango 2 ", a recollection of the music played at the Tango Festival at Challiot Theatre , on June 2003 .

The interesting fact, is the inclusion in this CD , of some of the "new" tango musicians and orchestras , such as El Arranque , Neo Tango, Quinteto Ventarron , and so on .

I say "new", because this people have been playing for many years , but they have been gradually known by audiences as tango groups for the last five years , more or less.

What amazes me , is how this musicians gathered in different groups , keeping the quality of their music. For instance, Ramiro Gallo and Vachausky are the violin and bass of El Arranque, but they play with Neo Tango also. And Vachausky produces also the singer Lidia Borda and his performance with pianist Schissi, which also plays at El Arranque , and also at Orquesta Escuela de Tango with Maestro Emilio Balcarce.They are just popping put here,there, anywhere :):)


Last but not the least, there is an excellent performance of the milonga La Trampera , by a trio of violin , piano and bass, made by AGri ,Zarate and Falasca . To hear La Trampera without bandoneon is quite an experience . However , it keeps the "sting" of the orignal composition written by the beloved Pichuco Troilo , a danceable milonga 100% .

I take this milonga to some old time local milongueros, and asked them what do they think about it . Some of them frowned , and mumbled something about "new music" , but some of them listened this arrangement and commented that it looks as if this new XXI century may bring a new role for the strings as leading instruments on tango music.
