Is the discussion of "butt waves" less about the butt and really about the transfer of weight and the "pulsing" action that comes from driving =
off the standing leg and fully arriving on the new standing leg? Like the rhythmic pulsing of ocean waves?

That is exactly what I think it is. I think the so-called "butt wave"
is simply an artifact of that transfer when it's done properly.
