Jay asks about 'check steps'
"Please help me understand the issues with check steps. Are they culturally
frowned upon? "
Not at all, 'check steps' are very useful to learn how to navigate the
floor.
Most steps that you take can be undone. You may start by stepping 'side
left' with your left foot and then change your mind and return to the
resting position of the base. You may restart with a change of weight to
your Rt. foot and go forward with left, change your mind and return to the
resting position of the base.
You can undo step # 3 of the base or #4, etc.
