Subject: Dancing Tango for Tango
Hello Friends,
One of the key reasons Portland enjoys a large, growing, active, cooperative
community is because we learned early on that tango's myriad of forms and
styles is part of what makes the dance, and its musical interpretations so
compelling, challenging, and deeply rewarding. Acceptance of, and appreciation for,
differences is a community tradition.
When Clay began bringing visiting Masters in, starting with Nora Dinzelbacher
in November '94, each introduced us to their particular style. We appreciated
and respected their differences, gained new insights from each, and quickly
learned that there is more than one way to tango.
Dancing tango for tango with its blatant subtleties, grounded lightness,
magical reality, joined individuality, humored seriousness, fuzzy logic, ethereal
earthiness and youthful maturity, can be indescribably delicious.
Ten years later, at any given Portland milonga, many styles share the floor,
and each includes the potential for magic, mush, and all degrees in between.
We cherish the continuing quest for quality and the infinite, exquisite
possibilities yet to be discovered in this ingenious dance.
