Brian's point about MANNERS on the dance floor is an
excellent one. Keeping ones neighbors at ease on the
floor is so important. It is more than just not
bumping, it is avoiding the suspicion and anxiety of a
POTENTIAL bump. Social dancing is a team sport of
sorts. Keeping the neighbors at ease is part of the
team work.

Here is my best ever tango crash story:
1997 at a practica at Cochabamba. I was wearing
leather combat boots. This one woman was thrashing
around so out of control that when her red high heeled
shoe stepped down on my right foot she PUNCTURED MY
BOOT!! If I had been wearing normal tango shoes, she
would have amputated my toe.

But this is preaching to the converted. The bad
drivers dont know or care that they terrorize the floor.

Sarah,

Wow, what a story!

I can just see it now!
One of the tango shoe vendors will soon
be introducing a line of

Steel-Toed Tango Combat Boots
featuring titanium steel for strength and light weight,
kevlar for side protection,
soft velvety lining for inner comfort,
and of course the usual features of arch support and
built-in comfort that enable the ladies to dance all
night, now feeling safe from foot injuries.

Next will be a new line of Titanium Steel Shin and
Ankle Guards to prevent bruises from errant boleos
and from badly led back saccadas.

And for those who've experienced really dangerous dance
floors, there will be, are you ready for this? yes?
Steel and Kevlar Full Body Armor
complete with the necessary
Personal Airconditioning Unit
(after all, it gets quite hot inside full body armor).
The Body Armor will come with a removable BreastPlate
for those dancing apilado, as well as allowing for
removal of either the left or right Cheek Guard for
those who dance cheek-to-cheek.

Under consideration for development will be personal radar
sets, porcupine quill attachments to guard against those
deadly backsteppers (you know the kind -- the ones who step
back two meters against the line of dance), and of course,
various spinoffs from sci-fi developments, not to be
mentioned as they're still Top Secret.

Disclaimer:
For those who just "didn't get it",
the above is intended to be humor.
In all seriousness, I'm glad that Sarah survived what
could have been a serious injury.

What is the message here?

Please, everyone, think of those dancing around you!

And, come to Denver for Memorial Day Weekend for a great time.
The outdoor milonga on Sunday is at an incredibly beautiful location,
the Pavilion at Cheesman Park, with a great view of the mountains.

Leave the Body Armor at home. It probably wouldn't make it
through airport security anyway.

By the way, did the officers of Tango Colorado make arrangements
for another beautiful sunset like the one two years ago?

Abrazos,
Dave from Denver,
who's looking forward to great dances Memorial Day Weekend
