Subject: Many Thanks!
This is a HUGE thank you to all who attended last thursday night`s (5/9/02)
milonga held on my behalf in Los Angeles. It was just too wonderful an
evening for me, I was totally overwhelmed. A special thank you is in order
for Louisa, Veronica, & Guillermo for offering their regular thursday night
space for the event. Also, special thanks to the promoters in Southern
California who collaborated together in organizing the event: Alexis White,
Julie & Angel, Joan Yarfitz, Super DJ Cesar (who DJed the event) & Patricia
Reeves, Marcos Questas, Yolanda Rossi & Michael Espinosa, & also to my neice
Roberta Celaya who helped me in many ways. Contributing also to a perfect
evening was Forever Tango bandoneonist Coco Trevisano combining with 2 new
young tango musicians Sergio & Marcelo providing excellent live music.
Fabulous dance exhibitions were performed by Fernanda & Guillermo, Claudio &
Veronica (from Rosario, Arg.), Armando Orzuza & Joan Yarfitz, Nestor Melo &
Suzie, Marcos Questas & Joan Moran, Fernando & Marta. It was truly an
evening that I`ll never forget & will always be grateful for.
Those of you visiting Los Angeles in the near future will find a solid tango
community here with some excellent quality milongas for your dancing
pleasure: El Encuentro (saturday nights), Club Danzarin (sunday nights),
Hollywood Dance Center Practica (wednesday nights), La Milonga de Las Naifas
(thursday nights), Yolanda & Michael`s Bailongo in Westwood (friday nights),
& finally, I`m happy to say, I am physically strong enough to once again
resume my DJ duties on tuesday nights at Pasion Supper Club in Studio City.
Come visit us & have a wonderful time.
Many thanks for all the wonderful e-mails/well wishes from all my friends
from around the world. They definitely helped me a great deal.
Best Wishes Always,
Mark Celaya

Subject: Many thanks
Greetings after a long hiatus,
First to Larry in LA. Sorry to hear of your decision but we all have reasons why we become obsessed with this dance and why we may in turn decide to abandon it. In many ways it is as unforgiving as it is inviting. My best to you in your future endeavors. May you take with you something of it's spirit and fire in your other pursuits.
Personally I would like to think those of you who responded to me in my predicament. It has been almost two months since I broke both of my heels in a fall from a portable scaffold. You know who you are and I will remember you. I am still not out of the woods. I have been confined to a wheelchair since then but should be removing the casts this week and starting to learn to walk again. Most of the doctors are impressed with my motivation but it's obvious they don't tango or they would realize I'm pretty normal :-)It has been very discouraging to not dance for two months (imagine!) and I still have one more month at least of rehabilitation! but I am determined to dance even better than before when I return. To dance with all my beautiful partners four to five nights a week and then go cold turkey riding in a wheelchair is depressing, to say the least.
I have my walkman at the hospital and plenty of CD's and even a few videos. It will be interesting learning to walk from scratch to Di Sarli and D'Arienzo and DeMare and all my favorites. Maybe I will have a hint of the feelings that my Argentine friends have in listening to this beautiful music from an early age.
Again many thanks for the encouragement and I hope to see many of you again on the dance floor in New York hopefully by about the middle of June if not sooner.
Cheers
Charles Roques
