Hi:
I can't imagine that you would leave out Miami, FL intentionally.
We have been doing the largest Tango Festival outside of Bs. As., Tango
Fantasy Festival on Miami Beach for ten years now and before that, Daniel
LaPadula and Jorge Nel Giraldo were doing festivals and workshops at the Elks Lodge
in Coral Gables, FL and various venues around town for more than 15 years.
I would suggest that you do your "homework" first, inquire from good Tango
sources, second, or not post at all. Incorrect information could be
misleading for other purposes.

(I have no financial interest with any tango events that I mention in
my message)
Dear Lydia Henson, you said "Daniel LaPadula and Jorge Nel Giraldo
were doing festivals and workshops at the Elks Lodge in Coral Gables,
FL and various venues around town for more than 15 years." and "you
didn't put Miami in the list "intentionally". First of all it wasn't
intentional at all, however;
If you are so proud of your well established congress and tango in
Miami, you shouldn't get upset by possible misleading messages.
Moreover, my message was meant to talk about the succes of Ann Arbor
people, not about the questionable development of Miami Tango
Community. I've traveled many different tango places from Atlanto to
DC, Seattle to Sacramento, Ann Arbor to Denver, Portland to Chicago
and more, but so far the only people i met from Miami were teachers
(Gustavo Lopez and Jorge Nel), i haven't danced with any followers
from Miami yet at any festivals around the country. That's why i
cannot tell you anything about Miami "community". Please, pay
attention that I'm talking about the "community" not the names, or
businesses, or shows. Why do think Miami wouldn't be in the list with
an outstanding grades? let's think about it!
With my full respect to the organizers, C.I.T.A. , Tango Fantasy
event, Tango cruises, Tango event in Las Vegas, US Tango Int. Congress
in LA, and "TangoCamps" in touristic places in Europe or in Jamaica,
or in Mexico beaches which there is NO tango happening at all, are
not meant to build local community, so they are NOT tango festivals.
They are in a different category.
(be careful, you might not like this classification system that i use)
my classificafion for tango congresses/vacations Vs. tango festivals
(# of lessons/ # of milongas, supporting local tango dancers YES/NO,
local Tango Musicians, local venues, cost $500-$700/person or
$50-$200/person etc.)
What's the reason for organizing festival?
- making money?
- developing, improving local tango community?
- creating event for out-of-towners (touristic tango attraction)?
...
the possible answers might be more varied, combined of couple of them
or just particular one depending on the type of the tango event.
I like the diversity we have, people can choose.
enjoy
