This is a tango festival by dancers for dancers. The focus is on
SOCIAL DANCING in the close embrace. We anticipate about 300 dancers;
dance floors will be crowded and energized, but not too crazy because
the level of dance is high and a large percentage of the visitors
have Buenos Aires dance experience.
Five milongas, each one better than the others:
- Fri Afternoon: Welcome Milonga...meet old friends, make new ones.
- Fri Evening: Mercury Milonga with live music of Extasis...One of
the BEST tango clubs in the US.
- Sat Evening: Tango Concert with Extasis, followed by DJ dancing.
- Sun Evening: Outdoor Milonga by Tango Colorado in the FABULOUS
Cheesman Park Pavillion
- Sun Night: Late Night Hardcore Milonga. Dance 'till dawn!
Extasis is Denver's own live tango quartet under the direction of
Evan Orman on Bandoneon. They are excellent for both listening and
dancing.
Top US DJs include:
- Robin Thomas
- Stephen Brown
- Robert Hauk.
Top US teachers of "milonguero" or "club" style tango include:
- Christopher Nassoupoulos & Caroline Peattie of San Francisco
- Hsueh-tze Lee of Boston
- Barbara Durr of Atlanta
- Robert Hauk of Portland
- Robin Thomas & Jennifer Bratt of New York
- Tom Stermitz of Denver
Special early-arrival workshops on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday with
Yvonne Meissner of Amsterdam. The focus in Yvonne's workshops will be
on "Almagro Style Tango". Yvonne is spectacular for boleos,
decorations and other elements of the "woman's voice".
Late August is a great time to do a little exploring of the Colorado
Mountains...hiking in the foothills is only 30 minutes from the
hotel. Take a longer trip to visit the high country.
