Subject: North American Tango Festival Season About to Start
The North American tango season is about to get underway with ValenTango
in Portland, Oregon. The season extends through November with Fandango de
Tango in Austin, Texas. Some of the festivals are new, but many are
annual events.
Some of the festivals emphasize social dancing and some feature big-name
instructors. Either way, the primary advantages of these events are many
hours of social dancing, an extensive class schedule with quality
instruction, and an opportunity to meet and dance with tango dancers from
all over. Many of the events are surprisingly affordable.
Below is a list of most festivals scheduled for North America in 2005
8th Annual ValenTango, February 18-20 in Portland, OR

It's hard to believe that in the mid-1990s, the only recurring tango
festival in North America was at Stanford University during midsummer.

Don't forget Meet in the Middle Aug 5-7 in Mt Vernon Missouri. Returning
instructors are Robert Haulk, Barbara Durr, Robin Thomas, and Jennifer
Bratt. Emphasis on Social Dancing with meals, milongas, and more, all for
affordable price. I'll be tweaking last year's schedule and price, see last
years at www.thelearningdepot.com/murrays-1.
I only have room for 60 couples dancing, so if enough seasoned dancers
enroll, there won't be a beginner track or spectator seats sold. But to
offer a side bar for show...
There is a new community theater one block from me, called The Horseshoe
Theater, a theater in the round, for plays and performances. I have
reserved their stage for extra classes and private lessons on Sat.day.
Would you like to do a performance for their Sat night entertainment?
I am against scheduled performances during a milonga, most want to dance,
not watch. But, for a captive audience, we could show them a few cool
moves. If you are coming and want to volunteer one number for the Horseshoe
as a sidebar, let me know.
I guess this is an advertisement, but Steve put it here, so did I. And
thanks, Steve, for reminding us we have truly expanded our tango
possibilities.
