Subject: Tango Growth Again?
I notice signs of tango growth...is this happening elsewhere?
(1) Denver is growing again, after several years where outflow seemed
to equal inflow.
This is shown in the attendance in classes, practices and workshops.
Tango Colorado deserves a great deal of credit, as it made a
conscious effort to emphasize friendliness and welcoming beginners to
the practices. Local teachers are also marketing harder, and growth
and new faces feeds into more growth.
(2) I notice younger people coming in to tango.
Denver has historically been about 40% 30s, 25% 40s & 25% 50s. Now we
seem to be getting in more people in the 20s age group, and some
local university classes have been large. In Ann Arbor they are
getting 100 people every Wednesday and another 30 on Monday. I've
heard rumors from other University towns of tango attracting more
students.
