Hol Listeros,
Has anybody ever heard of a Japanese tango singer by
the name of Ranko Fujisawa?
Apparently she caused a sensation in the mid 50's on a
tour of BsAs, together with a fabulous Japanese
orchestra. The only foreign tango orchestra, according
to an old tanguero friend from BsAs, which "ever
amounted to anything". :) And, the singer is supposed
to have the "voice of an angel". Apparently that's all
you could hear over BsAs radio for a three-week period
during their visit in l954 or 1955. Much to the
chagrin and annoyance of the local musicians and
vocalists. Needless to say, Ranko and her orchestra
were booted out of town PDQ, for political reasons
(who needs the competition, right?), and no recordings
of their music are to be found anywhere in Argentina,
for love or money. Except for some contraband copies
from the radio broadcasts. But very rare and hard to
find. They were not allowed to record in Argentina,
but it seems they made recordings in their native
Japan. Astrid, would you know?
I just found a clip recently of her singing "Yira
Yira", recorded in Japan in 1951 with the Oquesta
Tmpica Tokyo Shimpei
Hayakawa(https://www.todotango.com/english/seleccion/alfabetico.asp?letra=Y).
Sounds a lot like Mercedes Simone, whom I love. If you
know or hear anything more about this lady, or any of
her recordings, and where to find them, please let me
know, privately. There's quite a bit more to this
story, which makes this artist even more remarkable,
and which I'll be glad to share with anyone who's
interested, also privately.

Hola Luda,
there seems to be a new CD edited by Sony (Sony SRCR-2387) of her most known
recording "Mamá, yo quiero un novio".
Yo may find another very good CD edited in Colombia: "La típica Tokio en
Colombia" (Sonolux 01-98-29-02826) in the collection "El show del tango".
This CD includes instrumental tracks (Típica directed by Shimpei Hayakawa)
and lyric performances by Ikuo Abo, Ranko Fujisawa and Hideko Yuki.
Good luck !
