i lead and follow and it has been my experience that it is more
challenging to lead at the beginning of learning tango and that, as
time goes by, it becomes more challenging to follow.

my rationale is:
there is so much to learn at the beginning for leaders....
navigation, musicality, steps, balance, leading another person, etc.
after leaders become more proficient, many of them complain of being
bored because they can only dance to their own repertoire of movements.

for followers, the beginning is easier but as they progress, they
become more and more challenged to "accomodate" "adapt" to their
leaders and all the various styles, steps etc. remember followers
never know from step 1 what will happen in the dance. it may be
something you have never experienced before.

my 2 cents
