Friends -

This is getting ridiculous. Now I'm reading e-mails that would lead one to believe Portland is a disastrous place to dance. I'm in total disbelief. Not only do I absolutely love to dance there, most of my friends who live there feel very fortunate (if not downright proud) to live and dance there (many have traveled widely).

I have utmost respect and admiration for the community leaders in Portland (Polly being one of them, thank goodness she wrote to us), and I feel bad for them that this silly internet conversation would portray their community in such a dark light.

Problems are best dealt with locally, with the individuals involved, perhaps including some of the community leaders, directly and honestly. The internet ain't gonna solve your problems.

Ditto - One (or two if I'm fortunate to go in February as well as October) of the highlights of my tango each year are the TangoFests in Portland. Not only are the instructing and dancing great, but mostly it's the Portland tango community (their expert organizers, hosts and other wonderful guests) that makes these events wonderful. See you there! PJ
