Dear Tango-L readers;
I just posted a rant about Gotan Project. You could tell my ears were
insulted by what they offered as a new CD we should enjoy.
I really liked their first CD ... but these guys must have grossed so far
(good for them) millions of dollars from it yet let almost 4 years go by
before they followed it up. That delay alone should tell you what you need
to know about the next one. They didn't have a clue what to do except
imitate themselves and try to tweak it with unworthy borrowings and guesses.
Too clever by half. I wish they had imitated their earlier success more.
By virtue of what they have asked us to purchase now, they need to be taught
a lesson.
Musicians are not bad people (!). But - they need to know when they have
lost direction while pleading for our money and adherence. The market has to
send a message (I humbly submit).
To those of you who always hated the first Gotan Project CD, I ask you to be
open to the possibility that you might like some of it in the future. It is
truly a work of art.
If, in the future, I ever come to like this new one - which sounds so
inferior and insipid to me now, I will recant publicly. Gladly!
To me, there are two Gotan Projects. They are deserving of great respect for
what they did originally. I wish to take nothing away from that.
Now, they sound quite cynical and certainly devoid of inspiration. Going
through the motions. Badly.
Let's hope it's only a passing phase. They showed compelling inspiration in
their early days.

Listos,
I totally agree with Keith.
I only wish he didn't hold back with his review / e-mails.
This is the worst CD, LP, 45 or 78 of tango music I have ever purchased.
Even if Rap "music" with lyrics like "F... this" and "F... that" is your
thing, this Gotan CD is a pass.
There is no redeeming value in this CD for Tango lovers.
This CD is not Argentine Tango music, it is junk.
Salu2,
