Subject: Married in the milongas
I will let you in on some secrets. A number of
Argentine women who go to the milongas are also
married. They remove their rings in the powder room
before entering. Many do not use their real names in
the milonga. Also, a number of visiting women are
married and come without their spouses or their
spouses go to different milongas. So you see, what
works for the goose also works for the gander. Among
local dating couples, it is usually agreed that he
will go to certain milongas and she will go to others
so as not to limit their dance opportunities.
And I agree it is not appropriate to acknowledge a
gentleman if he is acompanied by a lady - it may be
his wife or his girlfriend or a client. More and more
men in Argentina are 'for hire' these days. They
usually apologize when next I see them and explain
that they were obligated to their 'student'.
Oh the games we play!
