Subject: Milongas of Buenos Aires - reopening
Dear friends from Tango list
There is an interesting article at La Nacion newspaper today, about this subject, unfortunately is in spanish
https://www.lanacion.com.ar/informaciongeneral/nota.asp?nota_idg8310
Basically, it talks about an interview with the Secretary of Culture of the Town Hall of Buenos Aires, that says
* There is a revision of local regulations, to enable a new category of licenses , "M" code
* Tango is considered cultural patrimony of the city by law 130 , and it is necessary to promote and support tango activity
* Instead of issuing an authorizarion for the place where the milonga is held,. the authorization would be directly to the milonga, for instance, La viruta milonga actually is held at Club Armenio, and the Club Armenio is the one authorized by local government.
(My personal opinion is that this idea has to be polished a bit more, because the security and fire countermeasures , are always to be considered related to the place , their physical area, emergency exits, fire extintors, fireproof materials inside, etc.etc.. To approve a milonga to work ,is like giving a butterfly a license to stand over any surface, including bonefires if it pleases to the little flying beast :)
* The Secretary of culture will meet with the members of the association of organizers of milongas AOM ( the one presided by Omar Viola from Parakultural and Marcelo Salas from the Glorieta at Barrancas), to try to meet ideas and proposals, to have this new regulation within 30 days. The first step already done was to create a register of milongas, to know where and who are the milongas and their organizers located . There are actually 68 milongas registered, this could be considered an achievement ( I say , not the article) , since this figure covers a good percentage and a representative average of the milongas working in the city.
This register will be kept updated permanently, and will be used also by the Secretary of Security to make regular inspections to the places where the milongas are held to check security conditions.
Warm regards
