Subject: The milongas in Buenos Aires raise their entradas
The admission prices in the milongas have remained unchanged for five years
or more. This is changing. Until about December 2001, five pesos was equal
to five dollars, and milonga entradas were 2 to 7 pesos/dollars. Currently,
the
peso is worth US$2.94.
For example, the entrada at Club Gricel has been five pesos for all the
years it has been open. I went last night and learned that the entrada was
increased last month to six pesos. I heard that El Beso has also raised the
entrada to six pesos.
Patricio's milonga at Celia's has also gone up to six pesos for everyone,
whereas Hector's milongas on Friday and Saturday afternoons at Celia's have
just gone up to four pesos for women. Only Celia's weekend milongas remain
at three pesos for women and five pesos for men.
Women can still get in free during the first hour at some milongas where the
entrada is five pesos for everyone. And of course, there are many free
milongas as well (but not where the better dancers go).
Parakultural is the only milonga I know of that charges seven pesos where
they often have musicians and/or exhibitions.
You can go to Enrique's in the afternoon (17-22,00) at Leonesa for 4 pesos
and
stay for the night milonga with orchestra (22,30-5) without paying another
admission.
It's tourist season in Buenos Aires, so it's no surprise that entradas have
been increased. Hotels have raised rates as well.

Excuse me, how much do you pay in the US????
Last time I visited New York I found that that prices increased too, quite a
bit. Not to speak of Paris. Or London.
