More on milongueros, the undesirable individuals
Let's take a look at the artifacts coming from the actual milongueros of the
old, not the defamers of the old. What did the milongueros like to dance to?
Fortunately Sergio Vandekier had summarized some of the common topics of
tango lyrics. Here you go:
Love, the loss of youth, depression
Tango
Dance and dancers
Bandoneon
The neighborhood
Carnival
Advise and wisdom
Childhood
Mother
Women
Men, manhood and compadritos
Bad life
Bar, drinks and drinking.
Gambling
Horse races
The harbor and the sea
... the usual, basically.
Do any of those strike you as overly reprehensible (more so than priests
having sex with kids for cover-up of which catholic church is famous?).

Apparently you know quite a bit about brothels where tango has originated. I
do not have nearly as much experience in those places. Two things however.
First. On the kind of people one might have encountered in brothels. I used
to know a retired stripper personally. She happened to be one of the most
decent persons I ever knew. Certainly by far more decent than most people in
the corporate world or those involved in politics (and as a result will
influence those people who will write historical accounts of their
personalities).
Second. You say your experiences were shallow. Well I am sorry to hear that
your deep feelings were left unrequited. However did you really expect to
get true love for your $200? As many a housewives will tell you, you need at
least couple millions for that. Happy Valentine's Day, by the way.
Cheers, Oleh K.
