Actually it isn't. Specifically selling mass-produced CD's of music and
supplying music for dancing is not the same. Otherwise there wouldn't be any
at most of the clubs. Music is meant to be heard and enjoyed and danced to.
As an ex-musician I liked the idea that my music might be played at dances.
But I wouldn't want anyone selling bootleg copies of it.
Artists record their music to be danced to and heard. Making multiple copies
of their product to sell is another story. That's the issue brought up by
Manuel. CD's are a specific product covered by copyright law.

And what happens when you play it for a class? Do you charge everyone a
listening fee along with the class charge so you can pay royalties because
you are charging for the lessons? At some point it would become absurd and
ridiculously expensive.

Not that this discussion will stop anyone from doing it anyway.
